Description of Methanol

Methanol is the simplest aliphatic alcohol and is composed of a single carbon atom. It is a flammable, colorless liquid that has a similar odor to alcohol. It is typically used industrially as a solvent, alternative fuel additive, or as an antifreeze agent with its high solubility in water and other organic solvents.

Methanol Applications

Methanol For Biodiesel

When combined with natural oils and fats, methanol may be used to create a renewable biodiesel fuel to be blended with traditional diesel, resulting in a more sustainable fuel.

Antifreeze

When combined with natural oils and fats, methanol may be used to create a renewable biodiesel fuel to be blended with traditional diesel, resulting in a more sustainable fuel.

Windshield Washer Fluid

When mixed, it allows the washer fluid to withstand cold temperatures to avoid freezing.

Sodium Methylate
(Sodium Methoxide)

Available in the form of a solid or liquid, commonly used in the production of biodiesel.

Soy Methyl Ester
(Methyl Soyate)

A soy-based derivative that is environmentally renewable. Applications include tar and asphalt remover, industrial cleaning and paint removal.
